Edward T. Owen (1850-1931)
Originally from Connecticut, Edward Owen came to Wisconsin to teach despite his fear of the Midwest Tornados. Here, he taught French at the University of Wisconsin. April 27, 1892, Professor Edward T. Owen began the organization of the Madison Park and Pleasure Drive Association. That same year, Owen donated his favorite riding trail which was never formally named after him in fear it would be confused with Olin Park. Owen ended up forging a name for himself here in Wisconsin using his passion for beauty to help spark the organization for our park system.
